August has been a busy month - I figure it's about time I drop a update here.
The highlight of the last few weeks was definitely the Global Leadership summit at Willow Creek South Barrington from August 8-9. Without going into too much detail, the Leadership Summit is a yearly event that Willow puts on; it is designed to empower leaders in our nation and around the world. The church manages to reach a large audience by broadcasting the event via satellite. Among the speakers are the likes of Colin Powell, Henry Cloud, and numerous other well known figures. So what did I have to do with this? Well...I was given the opportunity to join Matt Lundgren and his band - we played several music selections in the main auditorium sessions. It was a great experience! Got to work with some good friends, and made some new ones. Woot!
So the Leadership Summit was cool. In addition, I got to hit at Jimmy Carter's (not the president) church that weekend. Jimmy is the bass player shown above - he's a beast. He sounds like Marcus Miller and is definitely more ripped. There was one service, but it was about 3 hours! Playing gospel stuff like that definitely keeps me on my toes - I play about 500X more notes in black church than white church! I love it too - so thanks to Jimmy and everyone at Bright Star church for having me out!
I must also give mention to Ryan Roberts and the people at Compass Church in Naperville. I had one of the most fulfilling weeks playing in church (ever) when I was with them last weekend on electric. Ryan and the team out there are doing amazing work - thanks guys! Don't have any pics of that one, I was too busy being happy to take the phone out. Looking forward to playing bass with them this weekend!
I conclude this post with a 'lil video of a transcription. This is a Marcus Miller tune called Revelation; the solos on it are BLAZING. Here's me playing the guitar solo.
Later people!
